There are many different ways to interpret the notion of journey. One could look at it at personal or even philosophical point of view. There are range of ways ideas to take on the concept of journey.
The dictionary meaning indicates that travel is the act of travelling from point A to point b or distance to be travelled for a trip or a processed or coursed likened to travelling.
Reflection: Initially, at the start of this making unit I was inspired by the works of Dennis Smith pictured below; you can explore his portfolio on his personal site: http://www.denissmith.com.au/photo-gallery/ball-of-light/. Where it could be interpreted that the light sphere is taking a journey. I wanted to appropriate the idea he had, but with a different subject. I was thinking of using a personal object dear to me or even use a shoe, which presents a small discourse of journey/displacement and placing it in a variety of locations. However, I reached a dead end this idea. I couldn't really decide what subject to use in my journey.
I continued to brainstorm on possible ideas to adopt for this body of work. So, I decided to discuss with my Mr. Lane (Visual Art Teacher) on what concept I should take, looking at the photograph collection in my flickr.com account.
From this discussion, I decided to take a literal interpretation of journey, where I would portray a range of artworks that link transportation with journey. This includes all forms of transport like boats, cars, roads, train stations, airport terminals.
With a concept in my head, I began to look at what other artists or photographs have done on the topic of journey.
